Michigan basketball will host North Carolina, Arkansas next season

The Big Ten is expecting big things from the Michigan basketball team this season.
The most anticipated U-M hoops season in at least 15 years will start slowly, according to the schedule released Thursday, but end with a bang.
The Wolverines will play two exhibition games, Slippery Rock (Nov. 9) and two midmajor pod games before likely heading to New York around Thanksgiving for the Preseason NIT semifinals to start the nonconference season. Other nonconference matchups include North Carolina State (Nov. 27) and Arkansas (Dec. 8) at home.
As the Big Ten conference season builds, U-M will be in weekend marquee spots -- at Ohio State (Jan. 13), at Indiana (Feb. 2), at Wisconsin (Feb. 9), then hosting MSU and Indiana the final two weekends of the year.
The conference season opens later than recent years for the Wolverines, starting at Northwestern on Jan. 3 and hosting Iowa in the home opener Jan. 6.
After the slow opening to the regular season, the nonconference schedule mixes in a few BCS teams with three in-state MAC schools, and trips to Peoria, Ill., to face Bradley and Brooklyn, N.Y., to face West Virginia. But U-M should be favored in every nonconference game, given their top-10 talent and ranking.
