MIAMI—
It won't be difficult to play "Where's Wade?" this week. Dwyane Wade is about to hit New York like a cyclone with the start of his book tour.
"A Father First: How my life became bigger than basketball" will be released Tuesday, which also is when the Miami Heat's All-Star guard will storm Manhattan.
From Letterman to Calvin Klein, from ESPN to CNN, Wade is about to enter a whirlwind week that culminates with three South Florida book signings this coming weekend.
Two weeks after that, training camp will open.
For Wade, it starts Tuesday on ABC Radio, continues with two segments alongside Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar on "The View," then a book signing on 5th Avenue, a mid-afternoon media session at the NBA Store, a late-afternoon taping of "The Late Show with David Letterman" and an ESPN fashion panel followed by an ESPN book party at Lincoln Center.
And that's just Tuesday.
Wednesday?
A live interview on "CBS this Morning" at a time still to be announced, a taping at "Fox & Friends" for weekend airing, a "Good Afternoon America" taping with former ESPN anchor Josh Elliott, a midday on-stage conversation with Business Week editor Josh Tyrangiel, a Bloomberg TV interview, interviews and a book signing at MIST Harlem.
Thursday?
That would be "CNN Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien," a "CNN Your Bottom Line" taping, a session at Time Magazine. And that's just the morning. The afternoon itinerary features a "Tavis Smiley Radio" interview, a "106 & Park" taped interview at CBS Studios for BET, after which it's off to the Calvin Klein Collection, time with Vogue editor Anna Wintour, a book signing there, and then off to QVC, the latter events all part of "Fashion Night Out," the start of New York Fashion Week.
On Friday there will be a Google-plus hangout at Google headquarters in New York in the morning and then back to South Florida for the first of those three book signings.
Friday: 7 p.m., Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, 1 East Las Olas Boulevard.
Saturday: 3 p.m., Sports Authority Dolphin Mall, 11521 NW 12th Street, Sweetwater.
Sunday: 11 a.m., Books & Books, 265 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables.
Following those three signings in South Florida and the previous two in New York, Wade will continue on a signing tour that will take him through Atlanta, Chicago, Milwaukee, Los Angeles and culminating with a Sept. 22 signing in Washington at "Politics and Prose", one week before the Heat opening training camp Sept. 29 at AmericanAirlines Arena. The tour will have a one-week break before the Washington appearance.
Although Wade's book about his fight to gain primary custody of his two young sons has yet to be released, there already have been several reviews of the book that focuses more on family than sport, including one from "Publisher's Weekly" that said, "Wade recalls his own life, returning to the courtroom ugliness and peppering the story with his observation on fatherhood. . . . Wade's narrative is inspirational, and his enthusiasm for life and parenthood is apparent."
Among players who said they already have started reading the book are Heat teammate LeBron James and Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul, with Wade sending autographed copies to each.
