In what I think is the most significant development in the history of Ferrum athletics since the building of Ferrum Baseball Complex, Ferrum College dedicated the highly anticipated Hank Norton Center yesterday. This center, for which ground was broken on October 2nd, 2010, will serve all field sports at Ferrum, provide office space, classroom space, and and state of the art training equipment for strength and conditioning, as well as athlete rehabilitation.
Named in honor of legendary coach Hank Norton, this facility provides the athletics department with the most up to date and modern equipment that will not only serve the present athletes at Ferrum, but will also likely be a huge recruiting tool for future Panthers.
Norton who served a s Ferrum's fourth football coach, roamed the sidelines for 34 seasons from 1960-1993. In that time Norton guided the program to four National Junior College Championships, and oversaw the program when it transitioned to the Division III level. In his career, Norton amassed an amazing 244-77-11 record.
Ferrum's football program, now under the direction of first year Head Coach David Harper, finished with a 7-3 record, and garnered second place in the USA South.
Yesterday's dedication was attended by many former players that developed their skill under Norton, alumni and friends of the College.
Norton, in describing the new facility, commented "What a beautiful place...It's truly amazing"
