OSU Band to Spell "O-lie-o" in Honor of Tressel

(From MZone wire reports) Columbus, OH - Ohio State is honoring its 2002 National Champion* football team this Saturday during the Michigan game and rumors are swirling that their former head coach Jim Tressel will join them on the field.

In an MZone exclusive, we have obtained this picture of the formation the band will spell out as a tribute to their old coach if Tressel is indeed on the field:

Ohio State Still Doesn't Get It

Talk about hypocrisy.

When we last left our friends in C-bus, they were throwing disgraced former coach Jim Tressel under the bus to the NCAA, saying he - and he alone - was responsible for the violations Ohio State* now finds itself faced with.

Gee, how things change in two weeks.

In the last week, a tribute to The Dirty Vest was added to the main hallway of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.  According to the Dispatch article linked above, "included are such statistics as his career record at Youngstown State and Ohio State, national championships, Big Ten championships, record against Michigan, All-Americans and Academic All-Americans. Below that are photos from various seasons."

Here's a pic:

Wow.

I'm still trying to decide if this is Tosu* being utterly clueless, arrogant beyond words, or a giant heaping mixture of both.

I thought the official word out of C-bus was that Sweaterboy was solely to blame and Tosu* utterly ashamed of the current mess.  If that's the case, how the hell does a school do this mere days after the man in the shrine went before the NCAA to admit that he was a cheater?  Or school officials simply that stupid as to how this appears?  (it is OSU*, after all).  I guess when Gene "See no evil" Smith and Gordon "I hope the coach doesn't fire me" Gee are in charge, any combination of the above shouldn't come as a surprise.

Your move, NCAA.  I can only hope that you "enshrine" The Dirty Vest's "accomplishments" by giving Tosu fans some sanctions with teeth to remember him by.

Adventures in Heroism

Just in case you missed Yost's (re)tweet of the never ending stream of ridiculous news coming from our friends down south, I give your this little nugget:

A state-wide tribute to former Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel has been proposed by the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association (OHSFCA).

Solon High School football coach Jim McQuaide proposed this idea to association members for head football coaches through out the state be decked out in a white shirt and tie for Week 1 games. The MZone was able to secure a preview of what Coach McQuaide is planning on wearing when his Comets take the field on August 27th against Shaker Heights.

Why would a group of professional coaches & educators choose to honor a man disgraced by his own dishonesty and disregard for NCAA rules you ask?

The state-wide gesture is to salute Tressel “for all he did to help (the OHSFCA) and high school football while he was the head coach at Ohio State.”

The tribute recommendation was unanimously approved by the members of the Association. The has been no confirmation to the rumor that warned any coach opposing such a stupid idea would be "stuffed in a cooler full of shit".

In other news, another group in the state has climbed up on the bad idea bandwagon. The Ohio Hospital- Newborn Organization (OH-NO) has started a campaign to honor the fallen Buckeye coach and his players. For the rest of the year, OH-NO is recommending that all new born babies get tattoo'd in a show of solidarity and buckeye pride.

According to the group's spokesman, Brutus Griffin Hayes: "We want every little boy and girl born in this football crazy state to know from their earliest memories, where they came from. In these difficult times, we want everyone to bond together and support our poor and misunderstood Buckeye heroes.... and oh yeah... FUCK MICHIGAN"

Cue the Munchkins

"After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach. The appreciation that Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable."

Name That Tune Contest

Let's have a contest to guess which "country" song prompted Coach Tressel to break out his dancing shoes?

This is no April Fools Joke

Check out the urban camouflage designed helmet Ohio State is wearing for spring football. The official word from the Athletic Department is they want to honor "the military".

According to the press release: Ohio State players will be wearing the specially commissioned helmets throughout their 2011 spring practices. Following the Spring Game, all but 25 helmets will be sent away to be repainted in the traditional Buckeye silver. Each of the 25 remaining "camo" helmets will be individually numbered, autographed by Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel and then sold, with the sale benefiting the Ohio National Guard Family Readiness and Warrior Support Program, LiFE (Learning in Fitness & Education) through Sports Program and the Ruth and Jesse Owens Scholars Fund. These helmets will be sold off-line on a first-come, first-served basis for $1,000.00/helmet (limit one per an individual). Each helmet will come with a special Certificate of Authenticity, which will include the purchaser's name, helmet number and OSUDA signature authenticating the item of purchase.

There is no truth to the rumor the school is taking a proactive "on the offensive" approach by selling their gear before the players can get their hands on it and trade it for new ink.

As someone who actually served in "the military" -- I'd like to make a suggestion to the fans and administrator's of THE Ohio State University. One of the best ways to honor the military might be to require integrity and honor from the leaders of the organization.
