Ferrum Goes to 5-1 Defeats Maryville 24-10

Too many offensive weapons for the Panthers made the touted Maryville defense struggle to keep up as Ferrum rushed for 293 yards, and passed for 146 leading to a 24-10 win at W.B. Adams stadium.

Marcus Mayo, who played the entire game for Ferrum as QB, was 5 of 11 for 96 yards, and 2 touchdowns. He was also the leading rusher for the Panthers with 20 attempts for 133 yards
and 1 touchdown. Ferrum utilized 5 ball carriers to account for the 293 yards.

The Ferrum defense limited Maryville to only one touchdown, and allowed them in the "red zone" only once. Maryville finished the day with 286 total yards, with an average of 4.4 yards per play.

The result could have been even more one sided for the Panthers, but the Kicker, Clint Slappey was having an off day. He missed his first three field goal attempts, but connected on his fourth. While this was a cause for concern, Slappey executed a strategic on side kick after this field goal, giving the Panthers the ball back, and leading to a touchdown to put the game out of reach.
One of the stars of the Ferrum defense was Jamar Mosley. Saturday, the Chesterfield VA native led the Panther defense with 11 taclkes. Mosley was the USA South Rookie of the week for the week of Sept. 29th. Other notables on defense were Kevin Genchi, Willie Taylor, and Maureik Goode.

Ferrum 5-1( 3-0) will travel to Fayetteville next Saturday to take on the Methodist Monarchs. Methodist 1-4 (0-2) recorded its lone win against the Campbell Camels who are in their first year of football.
