Ohio: Where honoring the disgraced is just how they roll

Not much to blog about with the Sugar Bowl still a couple weeks out and the holidays on the horizon...until I got the email below from MZone reader Megan:

Fallen Heroes

As a Michigan alum living in Columbus, the picture below is one of the many reasons why I love this city.

Enjoy!   It was like an early Christmas gift.

This is so...Ohio.  Didn't realize Fathead had a Disgraced Coaches section.  Who knew?

Why do I get the feeling that if Bernie Madoff had won a National Title or two for Tosu and had a winning record against Michigan, Buckeye fans would hang a wall-sized poster of him in their double-wides?

Damn straight it's a trailer park joke!

From Our Readers...

Mark "Green Skull" Dantonio?

Got the following email from KP:

So I was watching Captain America the other night and I couldn't help but notice that Huge Weaving (I think that's his name) who plays the Red Skull looks deceptively similar to one coach in Green and White.

You make the call.

Let's take a looks, shall we?  Here's Hugo...

And here's Complaino...

Busting a Nut

The following was sent to us by Steve who runs Michigan Meets SC (as in the state)...

Back in 2006, the last time Michigan and Ohio State played for anything meaningful, a friend of mine and work colleague came back from a visit to Cincinnati Ohio, her home town, and brought me a buckeye.  Attached to it was a little flag.  One side said “Do Not Open” and the other side said “Until Michigan Beats Ohio”.  Notice even back then “State” was gone.  Huh, go figure.  It sat on my desk and over the years the nut dried out, the hull began to crack and peel away.  I could see the nut but not touch it.  I had really taken it for granted, like it would always be there.  Intact.

Anyway never giving up hope I applied tape and such to keep in intact for one day I knew I would get to peel away what pissed me off and bust that nut open.  Anyway on November 28th at 5:00 PM I cracked that nut.  Up until my drive to work that Monday morning I had forgotten about it.  A dreary Monday suddenly turned into a day long anticipation of releasing that nut from it’s confine of tape and dried hull.  It was truly like winning all over again.  Almost ceremonial.  I hope I don’t have to wait that long again to get a nut.  Thanks Team 132.

Buckeye Fans and Their Newspapers: Spelling Opshunel

Gotta love it when the comedy writes itself.  Or, in this case, does so incorrectly.

Just got the following email:

Hey Guys,

Big Michigan fan from down here in Columbus Ohio. I was on the Columbus Dispatch website (http://www.dispatch.com/) and then the Buckeyextra website (http://www.buckeyextra.com/content/) and found something interesting about the header they were using on the site. It shows a picture of four fans with OHIO spelled across their shirts. The only problem is, they were spelling O-I-O-O with their hands. This is not photoshopped. Go to their website and see for yourself.

Take care and GO BLUE!

Darin

Indeed, Darin  is correct.  It's on the site.  Check it out before a Tosu* grad with a Master's Degree from somewhere else spots the mistake and they change it.

Yep, THE Ohio State University.

There are also some standards of journalism at the Dispatch that I also question.   To wit, they still have their little counter in the corner stating it's been 2820 days* since Michigan's last victory over Ohio State in football.  But if they had any journalistic integrity it would read: "Days since Ohio State's last victory over Michigan without cheating and not counting vacated years: Unknown"

P.S.  SiC, you and Darin should meet up and form some sort of displaced Wolverine buddy system down there for safety purposes.

Terrelle Pryor's legacy summed up in one picture

Yes, a picture really is worth a thousand words.  MZone reader Doug sent us the pic below from a sporting goods store in Ohio.

The Terrelle Pryor Story: From Heisman candidate to the clearance rack

Wonder how the red vests are selling?

Reader Submissions: Why a Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Leave it to you, the MZone reader, to keep the site chugging along during the summer off-season.  Got a couple good pics in Ye Old Inbox over the weekend and had to share.

Two cars.  Two schools.  Two lives.

West Coast reader TG was in a grocery store parking lot in California when he spotted two cars parked next to each other - a BMW 5-series and a Honda Accord.  One had an Ohio State alumni license plate holder, the other sported a Michigan license plate holder.

Care to guess which was which?

All Degrees Are Not Created Equal

Everything Must Go!

Our good buddy and frequent contributor Surrounded in Columbus who, as his screen name indicates, is forced to actually live behind enemy lines, sent us the picture below from a local sporting goods store.  They were selling 2011 Sugar Bowl gear for 50% off.

I guess my question is: shouldn't these items be free since the game has since been washed from the Tosu* record books?

P.S.  No word from SiC on what red sweater vests are now selling for in C-bus.
