Dazzo, Pierre, Williams On Ivy Honor Roll
Dartmouth safety Steve Dazzo, running back Dominick Pierre and quarterback Dalyn Williams have been named to the Ivy League honor roll for their play against Brown. (link) To Dartmouth's chagrin, Brown quarterback Patrick Donnelly, who engineered the decisive touchdown drive against the Big Green, was the league's offensive player of the week.

For all the talk about how last year was last year and this year is this year, Brown's loss to Dartmouth was on the minds of players and coaches after the Bears' 28-24 win. Here's what quarterback Patrick Donnelly told the Brown Daily Herald after the game:
“To the seniors, this win means everything. It really does. It’s the chance to right what we did wrong last year.”

* Offense to the Rescue
While the Demens stuff on 4th in 2 in OT sealed the deal, in a switcheroo for the 2012 season, it was the offense's turn to ride to the rescue on Saturday. After so many games in which the defense kept Michigan in games (especially during the 148 minute Great Scoring Dust Bowl of 2012), U-M's offense fought back from 10 down in the 3rd quarter as well as :18 seconds and impossible in the 4th.
You knew there was going to be a game like this - when Mattison's Monsters didn't have their A game. And this was it. Northwestern outgained Michigan 431-419 yards, had a 27-21 advantage in first downs, and converted 8-16 3rd downs. But the offense never stopped fighting back and U-M's faint B1G title hopes live to fight another day.
* Fitz: 2013!
Like the rest of you, each Saturday, I keep thinking, "This is going to be the day." I can feel it: This is going to be the day that Fitz Toussaint breaks out and returns to the form (and stats) of 2011.
But, alas, with two games left in the regular season, I finally have to accept the fact that it's not going to happen this year. Yeah, I know it's not all Fitz's fault. I realize the O line has, on numerous occasions, in the words of Bill Murray in Stripes been "blowed up, SIR!"
Yet still I hoped.
No more. Our running game is what it is this year. Here's to a better 2013!
* Clutch Becoming a Hoke Trademark
The Wolverines under Brady Hoke have quickly become a team that you can never count out. Like the villain in a horror movie, they just won't die. From wins over Notre Dame last season to MSU and NW this one; to close losses in which Michigan still had a chance at the end (Iowa last season, ND this year), there is no quit in Hoke's Wolverines. Of course, some may call Michigan "lucky" in those games. I prefer to think of such so-called luck as the ol' point at "which opportunity meets preparation," with preparation here being coaching (okay, and at least one really shitty, fortuitous punt by Northwestern).
* Hoke's Cold Sweat
While I love Brady Hoke and think he's doing an outstanding job, nobody's perfect. And if he isn't waking up screaming in the middle of the night - "Why the &^%$! didn't I put Devin in at QB in the Nebraska game?! WHY!?!?" - he should be.
* U-M Student Section Sucks
And I thought the key play nonsense was bad.
Ha!
The empty seats are past the point of ridiculous now. Michigan has been reduced to having its football players make videos begging fans (read: students) to show up on time for the games. WTF?! This isn't Ball State. Bo's probably rolling over in his grave.
I'm not sure what more can be done since the athletic department already instituted the points system. But seeing all those empty seats up there after the game starts is a slap in the face to Hoke and the Michigan players.
Thus, since our microphone here at the MZone isn't as big as Brian's over at MGoBlog, I hope he continues to hammer away on that issue. Maybe shame will work. Because it's got to change.

35,000 and Counting
Today, the FCFR hit 35,000 page views since it started in 2008. That averages out to 7000 page views a year. A page view is different than hits....hits, as I understand it count actual visitors. Pageviews counts, and I am not sure how, the number of pages a visitor to the blog looks at. The statistical page of the blog can also track number of page views in the United States, as well as any country in the world...Some of the more recent pageviews came from these countries:

It is now official. Parity has come to the Ivy League. A 5-4 team has won at least share of the conference title.

Something to Hang the Black Hat On
Throughout life, I would say most people look to be recognized for an accomplishment. They hope to have their moment, and savor it. For some people, these moments are huge. Some are so huge that you can hear a phrase and know what that moment was...Think about these:
"The Giants win the pennant!, The Giants win the pennant!"
"One small step for man, One giant leap for mankind"
Now these two examples have become sort of iconic phrases that denote Bobby Thompson's "shot heard 'round the world", and Neil Armstrong's first step on the moon.
These are the extreme. The exception rather than the rule. The chances of a "moment" becoming famous is rare indeed, but never the less, most everyone has the desire to have that one moment.
Ferrum's season may not have ended as one would have hoped, but the accomplishments were many. In this season, Tim Reynolds set the single season passing record for Ferrum. Tarrell Owens had a three interception game that tied the school record. and Lynwood Pickett did a good imitation of Usain Bolt with an interception return for a touchdown.
Scott Puschell was recognized as conference special team player of the week, as was Tim Reynolds recognized as offensive player of the week. Derrick West, Tyler Brubaker, and Tarrell Owens also received player of the week honors this season.
There are more awards to come, and more recognition awaits, but the individual recognition will never compare to the accomplishments of the "team". The team that came back to fall camp to find so many that were expected to be there had gone in a different direction. The team that worked together, and against one another to secure a starting job. The team that saw players in positions they had never played before because they were needed there. The team that with so many new faces gave Emory and Henry a tough battle, learned from it, and quickly understood what it would take as a team to be successful.
The term team is something that is special. It is something that connects the individuals, and forms a unit. It is something that allows you to form bonds that will never be broken, and gives you an identity that is far more important than individual accomplishments.
The 2012 Panthers were a special bunch. A group that started the season with more questions than answers, but ended the season as a unit, strong in character, strong in their belief in their fellow teammate, and devoted to giving their all for the team accomplishments. This season may never lead to a Wikipedia page, or ever be associated with a recognizable phrase, but this team, was special, and represented Ferrum with class. In the long run it's the character you show that people will remember, and that being said, I do not see this team being forgotten anytime soon.
Congratulations Ferrum Panthers- Co- Champions of the USA South.
